China Factory Audit Checklist for Construction Chemical OEM: What to Verify Before Order

The performance gap between Chinese factory-direct construction chemicals and European brands has closed substantially in the past 5 years. The documentation gap has closed more slowly. The audit checklist below is what a serious buyer should verify before committing to an OEM or bulk supply relationship with a Chinese construction chemical manufacturer.

Factory Audit Checklist

1. Certification verification (30 minutes)

  • Go to the issuing body’s public register (e.g., search.cstb.fr for French A+, dibt.de for German CE, bre.co.uk for BREEAM-related). Input the certificate number from the supplier’s document. If it doesn’t appear in the register, the certificate is likely fabricated or expired.
  • Request current certificates only—check expiry date. Some suppliers present expired certificates.

2. Lab test reports (check methodology)

  • Lab must be ISO 17025-accredited—verify on CNAS website (cnas.org.cn) by searching the lab name
  • Report date should be within 3 years for standard products
  • Test method should match claimed standard (EN 1542 for pull-off, EN 11890 for VOC, etc.)
  • Product name on the test report must exactly match the product name being ordered

3. Production capacity visit or video verification

  • Ask for live video call of the production line for your specific product
  • Verify: mixing equipment, raw material storage labels, packaging area with your label mock-up
  • Request photos of raw material certificates (pigment, resin, cement base) with batch numbers

4. Sample protocol before bulk order

  • Request 5–10kg sample from the production batch that will supply your order—not a pre-prepared showroom sample
  • Test the sample yourself or have it tested at a local lab before confirming bulk order
  • For microcement: apply to a 1m² test panel and assess colour accuracy, adhesion, and finish after sealing

5. Contract terms

  • Quality clause: specify test method, acceptance criteria, and inspection right at port of departure (SGS/QIMA pre-shipment inspection)
  • Replacement clause for non-conforming goods
  • Labelling: confirm factory will apply your label correctly and not mix orders
